Astrid is one of those mothers you feel instantly close to. A calm and genuine strength, she shares her storms as openly as her impeccable sense of style. Surrounded by her two boys and her husband, Lucas, her everyday life unfolds between surf sessions, travel and skateboarding. Meet Astrid.
Could you introduce yourself in a few words?
Hi, my name is Astrid, I’m almost 40 and I live in Biarritz.
I’m the mother of two boys, almost 7 and 3 years old, and I’m married to my BFF, a professional skateboarder.
I trained as a psychologist, a career I’m about to return to after a long break during which I took care of our boys and of our children’s skateboard company, Mino Skateboards.
What kind of mother are you?
Present. I’m far from perfect - I can complain quite a bit at times - but I’m always available.
I’ve been lucky enough to dedicate most of my time to my children during their early years. Now that they’re both in school, I’m diversifying my professional activities, but I make it a point of honor to stay involved in their daily lives, for them as much as for myself.
Time goes by so fast.
During your first pregnancy, you went through a medical termination of pregnancy (IMG). It’s a topic that’s still rarely discussed. Would you be willing to talk about it?
Of course. I think it’s important to be able to turn to personal stories when going through this kind of experience - it helps create perspective and allows us to envision a brighter future.
I remember spending hours on forums at the time (in 2017), searching for stories from mothers months or years after their IMG.
Since then, conversations around motherhood have really opened up, notably thanks to podcasts like Bliss Stories, where all topics are addressed.
I believe the most important thing in this kind of tragedy is finding the form(s) of support that work best for you — whether family, medical, friendships, environment, or something else.
We shouldn’t always listen to what we’re told, but rather to what we truly feel.
